LAUSD Network for a Healthy California- Harvest of the Month The April Harvest of the Month from the Nutrition Network is unique – California dried fruits! Students will get to sample figs, dates, plums, and apricots. Students will observe, feel, and taste each dried fruit, and record their observations. They will write about similarities and differences among the varieties. They will learn about the nutritional value of the fruit, and will make a trail mix. Many different fruits come in dried form: apricots, apple slices, cherries, cranberries, dates, plums and mangoes are all popular as dried fruit. Ninety-five percent of the 30 million pounds of dates grown in the United States cine from the Coachella and Salt River Valleys in Southern California. |
MAY NEWSNo news posted Teacher Appreciation Week The first full week of May was established by the National PTA. Teacher Appreciation Day in the United States is celebrated on the first Tuesday of the first full week in May. Please join us as we give flowers to our teachers with much appreciation and thanks for planting the seeds of knowledge for our future. We are very fortunate to have the best teachers in LAUSD here at Enadia Way. Teacher Appreciation will be observed on Thursday with a luncheon sponsored by our PTA, as we honor our teachers for their endless efforts to help our students soar. California Standards Testing The second week of May will begin the California State Testing. Our 2nd – 5th grade students will be soaring this year as they demonstrate the knowledge that they have acquired this year. The testing window is May 7th – May 25th. Please make sure that you keep them healthy and get them to school, on time, every day during this period. If your child is late they will not be allowed into the classroom until after testing. We want 100% attendance on testing days. Research has found that students do better when they are able to test with their class and not during make-up sessions. In addition, help them to perform well and do their best by getting to bed early every night and provide them with a good breakfast (maybe some blueberries). I’m sure that our students will soar and do very well and our API scores will exceed or maintain our growth last year. The students who do not miss one day of testing will be rewarded with a movie and “popcorn with the principal”. For most classes there will be six days of testing. Two weeks on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. There will be no testing on Mondays and Fridays.
Open House & Science Fair– Tuesday, June 5th This school event is held primarily for parents to observe student academic progress and see special cumulative projects. Please come out as we showcase “the best of the best” and all of our outstanding academic work this year. It is not a time for parent conferencing. If you need a conference with your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s academic progress, please feel free to call the teacher to make arrangements before or after Open House. Please start helping your children with their Science Fair projects now...More information with guidelines will be coming home soon.
Becoming CharterLast month, we petitioned to become an Affiliated Charter with LAUSD. District-Affiliated Charters have closer ties to the district than the more familiar Independent Charters. Both must have their board approved charter proposal and both are held to a high level of accountability. A charter is granted by the LAUSD Board of Education and approved by the state, for a period of up to five years. Charter schools are open to any child who wishes to attend, from any part of the state. Although certain attendance preferences may be given, enrollment is conducted by lottery. The new name submitted for our school is the Enadia Technology Enriched Charter (E-TEC). Becoming an Affiliated Charter will afford our school the opportunity to continue to compete with other neighboring schools for enrollment so that we can remain open. And in addition it will generate approximately $60,000.00 additional monies with less restrictions on expenditures. We believe that it is a “no lose” option for us and that there are many Pros and the only Con was in the very laborious and time consuming writing of the petition. We needed 50% of our teachers to approve and we got well over that. In the next 60 days or so, we should know if our petition is approved. We’ll keep you posted. If you would like any other information about LAUSD Affiliated Charters call me or the Innovation and Charter Schools Division at 213-241-2487. From LAUSD SuperintendentDear Parents and Guardians: At the Los Angeles Unified School District, we strive to ensure that every LAUSD student will receive an education in a safe, caring environment, and that every student ...more |
EVENTS FOR THIS MONTH
May 7th - May 11th - Teacher Appreciation Week May 7th - May 25th - CST/CAT6 Testing May 13th- Happy Mother's Day! May 23rd - New Kinder Orientation May 25th- Awards Assembly May 28th - Memorial Day. No School School Safety Zone -As we go into the second semester, I would like to also take this opportunity to reiterate the need for us to be good neighbors and the importance of obeying all traffic laws in our school zone. Please try to be mindful that our children are very precious to all of us. We want to be safe, rather than sorry. So, remember the traffic flow around the school. Please continue around the block when dropping off and picking up your children rather than making U-turns or turning into driveways. Practice crossing at the corners rather than walking across the street in front of the school, also do not Double Park. LAPD will be monitoring our traffic patterns and giving out citations. Also, please be patient and courteous to others in dropping off in the mornings. I’m sure we all want to be good role models for our children and to do the right thing. Parent Workshopsin the Parent Center we are being very well received by parents in attendance. We have had up to 25 parents in our very informative sessions from behavior to the academic areas of Reading and Math. We have a few more planned for the rest of the school year. Look for the flyers for information of more to come. |
